Today’s stock market closed on a high note. A major milestone was achieved for the Dow Jones Industrial Average as it closed over 40,000 for the first time is history. Perhaps the most excited people about this are the hat and shirt sellers… but I think it is amazing. I encourage you to join share my enthusiasm over the “Dow” reaching 40k. Think of where it was when…? Where were you in 1984? What was the level of the Dow then? Today’s milestone got me thinking of the start of my career in 1984. My training class kicked off in July and after passing the securities exam, I started my investment career in October of 1984. The Dow was 1,080 July 31, 1984. What a run to 40,000! For perspective, the investment ROI on that move from just over 1,000 to 40,000 over almost 40 years is 9.50%.

Here’s some more interesting stats on the Dow’s new 40k milestone. It hit the 35,000 mark on July 23, 2021 – 2 years 9 months and 24 days ago. The Dow reached the 30k milestone 241 days before that, on November 24, 2020. 10,000 Dow was achieved on March 29, 1999. Yes, just trivia, but again, amazing to me. Hope you also find it of interest.
